So as anticipated (and intended), 2020 has been a fucking headspinner already.
My intention for 2020 was to allow myself the freedom to experiment wildly, in whatever format sparked my interest. For too long now I have felt my future works to be dictated by my past works, and this is an unhelpful bias that exists only within the mind. Once I’d realised that I have the absolute freedom to create whatever I liked, I decided to do exactly, and only that. I paid no heed to what I thought what was expected of me, and abandoned any concerns of whether or not what I went on to create would be liked by the public.
So far, I am still finding my feet in terms of my mastery over materials, but I am very much rooted in process, and this allows me to abandon almost entirely any consideration of an outcome, or resolution, to this process.
Whilst the process of painting naturally finds resolution to some degree with every painting one produces, I am not rushing toward this outcome, but rather allowing myself to be led by the active process of painting. My aim in this endeavour is not to create paintings, but to paint.
A small percentage of the work that I am making is of a quality that I am happy to put out into the world, but a lot of it finds its end with the aid of a Stanley knife.
Some of these works are already on ships and planes towards shows in the USA (Sade Gallery in LA), Italy (Dialogs in La Spezia), and Australia (Piermarq in Sydney).
Here is a selection of some of the ones I let survive. The rest are already dead.
